Here I am on a typical English summer's day, watching through the window at the rain coming down while I start preparations on food that we will all be sitting down to eat, theoretically in the garden if I can cover the gaze bo with sufficient tarpaulin, just in case.
Fifteen people of varying nationalities will be descending on us at 7pm, and I've just finished slamming in the lamb, after slathering it with garlic, rosemary, oregano, thyme and wine.

Praying for sun, or at least dry weather, I subconsciously started humming a song, and then spent the next few minutes hunting out the relevant CD, which is now playing at high volume.

I now confess to playing this stuff whenever I feel the need to cheer myself up, or whenever there's a lot of physical tasks to do in a hurry.
It's basically comfort food for my ears, and always leaves me in a happier state, with a lot more get up and go than when I started.

I know I shouldn't really like this type of music as it's considered uncool by pretty much anyone under the age of 40, but bugger it, I confess....

My name is Algernon Aswas, and I'm a banjoholic!

The tune that started it all this morning....turn it UP and try to not tap your feet....

I a-dare's ya!

@Lordyaswas,
First oneSounds like Ricky Scaggs and the Kentucky Thunder, is it?
I love Allison Kraus. I play a pedal steel and dobro guitar also. It adds a haunting sound to bluegrass

@farmerman,
Hang on, it's on the CD sleeve, and I need me glasses.

Album- Lovely Runs Both Ways - Alison Krauss and Union Staion.
Track 3 - Rain Please Go Away
Dan Timinski (good Irish lad) - lead vocals......
........scans down names....Alison, Ron, Barry, Gerry, Larry....nope, no Ricky Scaggs.

I also love a girl who can sing and likes a bit of fiddle.
