There are some very nice paintings by William Hogarth in my favourite London museum, the Soane Museum, showing life in Merrie Olde England ....

No it wasn't, it was a piece of piss. At the time there was little in the way of security in American airports, and American pilots obligingly taught them how to fly a plane without having to land one. They didn't even think that was suspicious until someone pointed it out to them after the event.

If you cast your mind back you should remember that airport security in America was incredibly lax, such an attack could not have happened in Europe. Do you also remember the extreme overreaction regarding security which we're all having to deal with now?

Btw: this weekend is the 75th Anniversary of the Quabbin Reservoir.

On April 28, 1938 at 12:01 a.m. four western Massachusetts towns and parts of seven others ceased to exist. The towns of Enfield, Dana, Greenwich and Prescott are now all at the bottom of the Quabbin Reservoir.

If I recall correctly, the instructors reported it as suspicious to the FBI.
