Not sure what kind of music you listen to, but I'll draw several analogies to cover the bases.

In country music, George Jones equivalent to

Rock n' roll - Elvis
Classical - Mozart
Jazz - Miles Davis
Hip Hop - Rakim or Tupac

Etc. etc.

These days, I usually don't listen to music at all. Once upon a time I listened to 1980s thrash metal.
