The strangest food you have ever eaten

Reply Mon 16 Dec, 2002 06:36 pm
I've eaten some not-so-common foods during my travels, but I know that some of you have eaten some 'exotic' or 'yuk' kind of food. How about sharing what you have eaten that we don't see on an American menu with your A2K pals? c.i.

littlek, Seaweed is a very common ingredient of sushi when my wife prepares it for New Years. When I visited Canton about twelve years ago, our tour guide told us she ate dog in the winter, because it makes her feel warm. c.i.

In my line of work, I have lots of opportunity to try different things.
Each culture has its foods, that other cultures think are bizarre or even disgusting. I guess it all depends on your point of view.

Some of these dishes I've really enjoyed, like tripe, barbequed chicken hearts, blood soup, blood sausage, blood pudding, live shrimp, live lobster, baby goat (it IS good with mushrooms Laughing ), prairee oysters, calves brain, sweetbreads..

Some I didn't like,..snake and alligator I didn't really get, I mean they taste fine, just no big deal...why bother? Chicken feet,..again,..why?
Head cheese,..I have issues with texture. Bladder and kidneys,...they smell like what they do!

Anyway,..I believe that if we kill animals for food, we should use the entire thing.

Jerry, You have the right idea. Food should not be wasted. Only humans waste food. I'll try almost anything once. Chicken hearts were no big deal when we were kids. Our mother served it to us. I even ate fish eyes. c.i.

Forgot about the cow brains and scrambled eggs. Or cow tongue. Of course, pigs feet and tails. And chitterlings. When you're in the country and slaughtering your own food, you try not to throw away anything.
