A midwestern (anywhere) love story

The fool
like sheets of glass
breaking easily
at a greeting
cracking at a friendly smile
the hopeless
cliche

wanting a moon light kiss
cowering from the tongue
the stars hide in saliva
the moon
chokes beneath the apple

this midnight romance
drunk and stupid
covered by a trash bag
choking in carbon dioxide

The same ol' dance
the same ol' tail
smacking an ass
already spoken in local lore
spoken as
stories of love and war
