I get the opposite, some very elegant resumes from people with degrees in landscape architecture, from the eastern US usually, having all sorts of experience, wanting to relocate to MY office, chuckle. We don't even have a secretary, er, administrative assistant.

We also get a telephone inquiry every couple of weeks from someone in practice who wants to relocate. We don't want to shoo away competition, we'd like some, it'd be bound to stir up some design dust - but have to warn them about not much money flowing in the region.

anyhoo, I get a kick out of the resumes from the opposite direction.

My resume has many lines in caps also, such as the headline, "PROFESSIONAL ASS KICKER," and under education, "SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS."

Craven- One thing that you DON'T want, is your resume looking like a job description. The idea is to show what YOU have done for the companies that you worked for. For instance:

Say you were a salesman. It says on your resume:

Quote:
"Sold Widgets for Acme Company throughout the entire West coast area"

That sounds like a job description. Now what if you added,

Quote:
Since aquiring my position at Acme, have increased Widget sales by 20%.

See what I mean?

You are in a very good position that you are able to see a lot of resumes. Which ones stick out in a positive way? Why? Which ones make you want to meet the person?

Try and ascertain what it is about certain resumes that piques your interest, and incorporate some the the ideas that you get into your own resume.
