I downloaded skype and it downloaded and the page says downloaded but it tell me nothing on where to go to to use it . There is nothing that I can find on the download page that actually takes me to skype and it doesn't show up in my apps list. any help would be appreciated

You probably only downloaded the installation file. The program still needs to be installed.
You'll have to find the location of the file that was downloaded and click on it to install the program.
