WHICH BOOKS WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON FILM?

Reply Sat 6 Mar, 2004 03:18 pm
3 of the books I've been wanting to see filmed for a long time are finally in production, "TRIPODS", "HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY", and Edgar Rice Burrow's "THE PRINCESS OF MARS". Next on my list is "OPERATION SHATTERHAND" an alternative history novel about Native Americans fighting Nazis who try to invade the U.S. through Mexico.
I'm always interested in hearing other peoples picks

I read somewhere they might be making a film of Mike Resnick's "Santiago". I would enjoy watching that.

I'd like to see Larry Niven's Ringworld.

I think Carrol Spinney should play Nessus, the mad Puppetteer.

I prefer original screenplays. I'm usually dissapointed with adaptations!

Tropic of Capricoprn.
That's just a fantasy of mine. I don't know that any film maker could come close with this one.

I would Love to see Steven Brust's Jhereg on film. And maybe as a little side bonus, Spider Robinson's Callahan's Cross Time Saloon. Both are all time favorites of mine.

I'd love to see 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'. A movie was made but it was so different from the book that, as far as I'm concerned, they've yet to actually film the story I read.

Decent film versions of 'Persuasion' and 'Northanger Abbey' would be nice.

What I'd also like to see-- but I'm not sure whether they've been done before--:

Kafka's The Trial and The Castle
Nabokov's 'Speak, Memory' and 'Pale Fire.'
Kingsolver's 'The Poisonwood Bible'
Voltaire's 'Candide'
And If on a winter's night a traveller, by Calvino

"Ringworld" would be awesome and I hope that comes to pass.

I would add Zelazny's Amber series.

"The Demolished Man" by Alfred Bester. It's been bought to script as a film three times and nothing. Thank gawd, Ahnold isn't doing films anymore! Definitely a Kevin Spacey vehicle.

If put in the hands of the proper director, The Tattooed Soldier would make a hell of a movie.

Another sci-fi film I'd love to see would be Hal Clement's "Mission of Gravity," which has also had its film rights bought in the past.
