Aristotle is considered as 'father' of most of the sciences, not just biology. He was pretty much the first 'natural philosopher' to base his scientific conclusions on observation and experimentation, like any moder-day scientist would. (His conclusions were often wrong but that's because he had no precedent to work from and merely reported what seemed obvious and reasable to him.)
