Most recipes to most dishes say "season with salt and pepper". I do, but my soup never tastes as good as soup served in a good restaurant. Whats the secret?

When are you adding the salt?

What kind of soups are you making, are you adding enough salt, are your ingredients fresh, are there other herbs or spices you've forgotten?
