Outlook Express, Spell Check

When trying to spell check emails, I get an error message that states the spell check on this document was halted. Do you want to send anyway? I have tried to troubleshoot without succeess. I cannot get spell check to screen my emails.
How can I get spell check operating? It works fine when using microsoft word.
