beth, you had a mini mistake in that its x+4 so the answer is x=3,

x=17 not 3 as you stated.
When you check back x into equation both sides equal 3 but not when x=3.
oy, you are so right. I went back and actually lloked at the original
(x-2)/5=(x+4)/7
cross mult
7x-14=5x+20
gathering
7x-5x=20+14
2x=34
x=17
