Canada = Switzerland

This is for real. About 5 minutes ago a fellow staffer (loudish voice) was talking about travelling and said:

Quote:
"I loved Canada. It was just like Switzerland".

All I know is that if I HAD to pick a European version of Canada, I'd travel a bit further North.

Any thoughts from North American (or Swiss) A2Kers?

Some parts of Canada are probably pretty close. What they don't share in lattitude they share in altitude. The Canadian Rockies are a little like being around the Swiss Alps.

But Canada covers a lot of area. The Eastern provinces don't really match up very well with Southern or Central Europe (at least not in land form or climate anyway..)

A popular saying here about 10 years ago was that Toronto is like New York - run by the Swiss.

There are certainly areas of Canada that look like Switzerland. There are areas that sound something like Switzerland - the multi-lingualism.

I think people often comment that different areas of Canada remind them of someplace else - it's so big and has so many different types of landscape and people and ...

An uncle used to say that the area between Montreal and Kingston reminded him of Siberia (he liked Siberia Shocked ).

The ski areas around Mont Tremblant in Quebec could easily seem like Switzerland to some.

Nah, the folks are far too nice to be Swiss . . . and although they give it a good run, they're not nearly so obsessive about keepin' the place clean . . .

I had a friend visit from switzerland a couple of years ago, she said the rockies sure looked like home but it were missing all the houses. Our mountains are pretty bare, of human habitation that is.

HELLO! Don't wanna pop anyone's bubble here, but which of these views would you associate as the nation that is the hub of international banking?

Canada is just like Switzerland, except with 4x the people and 241x the land.

Switzerland: 7,170,000 people in 41,284 sq km = 173 people/sq km.
Canada: 31,015,000 people in 9,970,610 sq km = 3 people/sq km.

Not counting Caribou or Moose.
