Is it weird to give funny animal cats and dogs pet cats?

I am working on a multicultural comic book series about streetfighting cats and dogs. Some of the characters have watchdogs they keep as pets, which is logical, but is it weird to give them pet cats? Please help. Thank you.

Why don't we just write it for you? My commission would be about $2000. I could have a fairly solid draft for you in four months.

@JGoldman10,
You don't need anyone's opinion. I'm sure you've got an active imagination. Have confidence in yourself. Smile

But since you ask, why do you restrict the choice of pet for your streetfighting characters to cats? How about rats or raccoons or opossums, for example?

Seriously, pet-store rats make great pets.

Oops! I almost forgot. How about hamsters ...

... or well-armed groundhogs? (OmSigDAVID would approve. Smile )

@JGoldman10,
No. it's not logical to have a watch dog for any of the characters unless they are paid employees of a cat or dog and there's no reason why a cat would have a pet cat.

@JGoldman10,
It might be just a little bit weird; but it's fantasy, after all. Well, actually, on second thought, I guess it would be weird, even in that setting. That's why I suggested an animal other than a cat for a pet. That's simply an easy way to get around that little problem. Anyway, it's no big deal. It's your choice. Just do what feels natural, I guess. Good luck.

@wmwcjr,
In some cartoons Goofy had Pluto as a pet.

In Goof Troop:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goof_Troop

The Goofs (dogs) had a pet cat named Waffles and the Petes (cats) had a pet dog named Chainsaw:

http://wondersofdisney.yolasite.com/resources/toondis/gooftroop/waffles_chainsaw.png

The Beagle Boys had a pet cat and a pet dog:

From:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beagle_Boys

They live in a small tumbledown hide-out in Duckburg; in 1980s American-produced stories, their pet cat Ratty often lived there as well. In the Italian stories, they are sometimes accompanied by their pet dachshund, 64, who shares their criminal mindset, but it is often overcome with 64's constant, voracious appetite.

64 is the Beagle Boys' pet dachshund. Like his masters, he wears a red shirt and a green cap, marked with the number 64. The Beagle Boys frequently take 64 along on their robberies, to act as a guard dog and to reach spaces too small for the Beagle Boys themselves. However, the plans are often spoiled by 64's constant, voracious appetite. Whenever 64 smells food, he abandons everything else to get to eat it.

In my comic you have ANTHROPOMORPHIC cats and dogs vs. NON-ANTHRO cats and dogs. HUMANIZED and SENTIENT vs. NON-SENTIENT.

It is NOT that big a deal. They do it in cartoons all the time.

The issue I think is trying to figure out WHAT BREEDS the PET cats and dogs should be- should they be distinguishable breeds or some generic hybrids or mutts?

@wmwcjr,
You want to give the cats and dogs other pets? I think bunnies might work.

@jcboy,
I am a BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN. HOMOSEXUALITY is an ABOMINATION -

Do not lie with mankind, as with womankind, it is an abomination - Leviticus 18:22.

Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. - 1 Corinthians 6:9,10

THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Why don't you give them pet humans? Pets as a rule don't wear clothes, so they'd have to be naked of course. And small and rolypoly, with great big eyes, Asian eyes of course, and cute. Turnabout, as they say, is fair play With rhinestone collars, and those automatic leashes that reel them in when they go to pee against walls or go sniff other humans.

If I give my characters pet cats, they'd have to be tough breeds.
