Linnaean Classification (taxonomy) of living things is pretty basic.

Here's a Wiki on Classification that's pretty good unless the Sarah Palin Wiki re-writers of history and science have attacked.

The animal kingdom has 7 levels of classification, (BTW platypus is a mammal)--Botany uses a different taxonomy.

Linnaean taxonomy of Duck Billed Platypus
Genus:Ornithorhynchus (Blumenbach, 1800)
Species:O. anatinus
