It you mean inteligent life then the best bet is the SETI program if you mean any life we have a good chance of finding such still in our own solar system.

For other then intelligent lives Mars is still a possibitlity and of course the ocean under miles thick ice sheets of Saturn's moon Titan's moon.

Any life forms found in the solar system is likely to have the same basic building blocks as earth as materials that might have contain life was share between the planets by large scale impact events.

Oh what they might be like is beyond knowing as we only have one sample at the moment to look at IE earth.

All life will obey the laws of nature so that will place limits however that still leave an amazing large area of possibilities.
