It's simple. The hoax is true, and it's false. Both sides are right.
We were in a public relations race with the Soviet Union. It was a major plus
to have the world believe we were technologically superior to the communist
system. We weren't about to risk a major public relations disaster by
filming a live visit to the moon that could easily end in diaster.
So we did a fake moon landing out of Utah, for the public television, while
simulataneously doing a real moon landing. We didn't do the real moon
landing live, because if anything went wrong, we would lose the Cold War.
We gave the public and the world the fake film of a fake landing in Utah
as if it were the real moon landing. Actors who knew their script so that
nothing could go wrong.
ag, do you have any supporting information for your claim. I have not seen that idea seriously floated before.
