I can't figure out where to post this....

I have recently (last year) heard the term "muscle fever". As I understand it, it pertains to over-using your muscles rather than having a fever/flu. What's happening to the muscles when they get so sore that they feel inflammed and hot?

when your muscles hurt its called DOMS (Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness) atleast thats what I think your reffering to http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/1999/01_99/muscle.htm should help.

You could also be talking about build up of lactic acid which is what finally prevents us from doing more exercise.

overtraining your muscles can slow the CNS just keep that in mind and dont train like a bodybuilder

This was more than just stiff achy muscles. They really felt swollen and hot. Anyway, wasn't in training, just spent too much time shoveling and using muscles that don't usually get worked.

Thanks for the link, safecracker!

sounds like DOMS, could also be a sprain. DOMS can be very uncomfortable for some ppl.

Maybe sore muscles just feel different as one ages...

Definitely not a sprain/pull/strain... well, maybe a strain.

Sounds like what we used to call over-training. You can even run a low fever.

Hey, safecracker! Long time, no see.

My prescription for you, littlek, is to buy a snow blower or find a buff guy to do your shoveling for you--you can provide goodies afterward.

Like they used to say in the army, there's three kinds of fool: plain fools, damn fools, and volunteers.

I think you volunteered.
