we've had a family of geckos living in our garden for at least 5 years so yesterday I caught 5 of them and got some coals burning on the grill while Lady Diane made a bowl of punch with 4 packs of Kool-aid and a litre of rum. I skewered the little fellows and put them on the grill while having my first mug of jungle-juice punch. In no time at all the geckos were krispy so we each got some coleslaw and gnawed away on the geckos. they tasted just like rattle-snake.
@dyslexia,
Are they stringy or chewy? I would have assumed they didn't have very much meat on them.
How do you season these lizards?
@tsarstepan,
crispy and I use a shake of Mrs Dash for spice.
@dyslexia,
Yep. Rattlesnake tastes remarkably like lizzerd.
@roger,
I was told that rattlesnake tastes like chicken.
Or as this MIT graduate explains, it's the other way around:
Quote:Chicken. While chicken may appear rather prosaic at first glance, it is reported that chicken actually tastes like iguana, rattlesnake, bald eagle, raccoon, or any of a number of other very strange animals. Also, I once had maggot quiche in Hong Kong. It is one of the few exotic foods that does not taste like chicken.

@tsarstepan,
I am prepared to leave the maggots to the MIT grads. Lord knows, they must be desparate for a thesis topic.
It's redneck week coming up, isn't it?

I'd be game to partake if given the chance.
@tsarstepan,
Damn, there goes my insurance policy.
@farmerman,
You have an insurance policy out on me?
Err... hope the deductible ain't too high....
<<<<wringing my own tie>>>>
No, but I have eaten an insurance policy.
@farmerman,
I don't think they got English geckos in albaturkey...

Speaking of which, I'm getting GEICO ads at the bottom of the page. I assume everyone else is, too.
@Eva,
A Geico ad, an ad for pet food for geckos, and a generic
delicious recipes ad.
@Eva,
No, not a Geico ad but an ad advising someone to "take Crocs (the sporty shoes good for wading into ponds) back to school."
@Rockhead,
ACTUALLY, hes not English, hes......
In the good old days, ever since gekos, rattlesnakes and other slithery creatures have been bred to taste just like chicken, you no longer get that old timey taste of road kill.
Oh, the memories...
I caught killed cooked and ate a copperhead snake once. there was a lot of bones. Tasted good if a little chewy but not worth the time getting the meat off the bones.
gecko is next in the list.

No, and probably wouldn't, even if it was disguised as something else, like tofu!
