You can get ice on the side but I dislike ice in drinks with spirits. There used to be a weekly Irish sessun (sic, the way the Irish spell session) at a local basement bar. The wine at this place is terrible. Although one can buy the size Guinness I prefer for only $2, Guinness has been watered down to suit American tastes. So, I ordered a Jameson's. I asked for a drop or two of water and no ice. There was more water than whisky in the glass! Scotch and water means Scotch to which water is added with a medicine dropper, as some distillers supply at Christmas time, not by the glassful.
