USB disk error

I use Windows XP, Service Pack 3. I have recently purchased a Seagate USB hard disk. Every time it is inserted in the USB port, Windows shows an error message that my disk cannot be recognized. I was under the impression that Windows XP automatically recognizes any new hardware as soon as it is installed. Any solutions? Thanks

@pushomikuor,
Windows will recognize most mass storage devices, but sometimes power is an issue.

Make sure that you're using the external power supply that comes with the hard drive.

If that doesn't fix the problem, then you will need to install the driver specific to that device.
