What bright person had the notion of bringing Eric Clapton and Wynton Marsalis' group together? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7eeb1MTkUY

@blatham,
The hell with EC I say.

Taj Mahal is the star here.
An alumnus of U Mass and dairy farmer. He's a national treasure and makes Leadbelly's Corrina Corrina his own.

A joyous trip through N'Oleans thanks to Mr Marsalis and thank you Mr Blatham.

@panzade,
I've loved Taj Mahal forever. As to "star", one tradition of New Orleans jazz I'm terribly fond of is the opportunity that is presented for everybody to be the focus and to star in the performance, each taking turns. And god damn those boys are all soooo good. The entire concert is worth watching not least to hear Clapton talk about his trepidation in being on the same stage as jazz musicians of that caliber - "And here I am doing my little jingly-jangly thing".

Two quick anecdotes. In high school I met a lady who was touring as Ledbetter's opening act. While I was at her home, Joan Baez called. Unrelated second anecdote. Yesterday, a family friend who lives up here on Vancouver Island had just returned from an outing with her daughters and her mother, who's 94. The mother said she wanted to try some of that "weed" the rest of them were talking about. They rolled a joint and grandma took a toke and said, "Oh, it's just reefer". She'd smoked a ton of it in Montreal in the 40s but somehow hadn't tied the two things together.

@panzade,
Definitely possible. Some unknowns at this point as to when I'm down to Texas and when daughter might visit. We'll stay in touch.

@cicerone imposter,
Something barely discernible about the long-term effects of Texas cuisine, I think.

Joe Cocker live, Unchain my Heart... how sexy is this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpz1Rsiw0AU&list=RDTpz1Rsiw0AU

There's a syndicated program on NPR called 'The Early News.' It features music that is pre-Baroque, i. e. Medieval in origin. Tonight they are playing songs that are known to have been popular with crusaders of the First and Second Crusades. Some in Latin, some in Norman French. Fascinating stuff.

Almost all the tracks on this list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oboes_in_popular_music

For some reason I had the notion to do a play list of tracks that feature oboe or cor anglais
