@Region Philbis,
Actually, it's grossly over-Priced. However, you have to prevent the Evil Empire Yanks from acquiring him. You could understand a bit of that sort of strategy there. Consider it a defensive blocking move in a hot baseball market.

Now what sort of production can he get from power hitters. what can you expect from Big Papi? sure hope they off load MLB's worst/most indifferent outfielder.

Plus, Dombrowski wants to hit the ground running after this last mess of the Red Sox. In fact, he has some sort of baggage after this last team, too.

@Ragman,

they may still go after Greinke, creating a pretty cool 1-2 punch...

@Region Philbis,
Wonder what sort of $$$ Greinke's will command? SheeZus! I see that he's getting $25m now...fercrissakes.

However, right now hes 32-yr-old and with a quick math crunch... fast fwd to the end of next season, he'll be 33. Now I don't see this guy slowing down for a few years...but you never know. He's been pitching for 11 seasons with 150-220 inn ... except for 3 injury-seasons - one back early and the other 2 in 2o12 and 2013.

His K's are slowing down but his effectiveness seems to have increased.

Incidentally, he's a legit hitter when he's been used...steals a base or two. Also , he's a decent to excellent fielder for SP

@Ragman,
oops..those might not have been injury seasons (some of them). He had a 2005-'06 bouts with anxiety and depression that were pretty heavy, so I see. Clearly, he seems over those problems or the under control.

Furthermore, an expert sports writer wrote this:

Free Agent Profile: Zack Greinke

By Steve Adams | December 2, 2015

"While Greinke isn’t as young as most free-agent starters (more on that later), there’s a belief among scouts that he’ll age better than most pitchers because he’s not overly reliant on velocity and because he’s among the most cerebral pitchers in the game. As ESPN’s Keith Law wrote when ranking Greinke second among free agents this season, “Greinke’s command, control and understanding of how to set up hitters are all at or near the top of the sport, and as much as long-term deals for any pitcher frighten me, I’d probably give Greinke whatever number of years he wants.

Law’s colleague, Jerry Crasnick, polled a number of execs and scouts in the early stages of the off-season, and 19 of the 34 respondents preferred Greinke to David Price, with one scout calling Greinke the closest thing this generation has to Maddux and another saying "he’ll age more gracefully than Price (which wasn’t to say Price will age poorly, but rather that Greinke will age abnormally well.")

interesting team this year -- they are fun to watch.
the offense has been outstanding... starting pitching has been good enough, although Price is off to a shaky start...
Kimbrel has had his ups and downs, too...

@Region Philbis,
Farbeit for me to be a Debbie-downer...or wet blanket..but the teams that RS have played so far have not been many over-500 teams. I think the total is something like 3 games over 500.

Furthemore, there's a lot expensive talent either sitting on the bench (Sandoval) or grossly underperforming ..such as three of their 3 SP.

As I am happy with the reversal with Yanks sitting on the bottom of a very mediocre division, I'm realistic about their owners/mgmt...buying their way out of that status by July 4th.

Orioles is/are who I thought would be the class of the division. Not so sure about that now.

with that double, Papi becomes the third player in mlb history (Aaron, Bonds*) to accumulate 500 homers and 600 doubles...

awesome game today!

sawx beat the tribe 5-2 behind big papi (4-for-4 with 3 ribbies, including career dinger #513)
and porcello (7-2, 5-2/3rds, 2 runs on 5 hits).

sawx are percentage points behind first-place baltimore...

I wonder whether we'll see the Red Sox win a pitcher's duel this season?

Where's my Mookie? I picked him, but apparently not fast enough in the a2k fantasy baseball game.
