Leggo my Eggo: Waffle shortage to last until summer

Quote:
A nationwide toasted waffle shortage is in effect after the Kellogg factory in Atlanta experienced flooding and was shut down when a sample of buttermilk waffles tested positive for listeria.

Quote:
As grocery store freezers slowly run out of the popular breakfast item, Kellogg says it will ration the waffles based on sales histories.

I love waffles. Love 'em. I make good waffles, but I like to keep some frozen waffles in the freezer (and Set did JUST empty and clean the one downstairs). Now there is a waffle shortage. I'm obviously going to have to get out the waffle iron.

What will you do? make waffles from scratch? eat something else? faint?

Illustrates the folly of making all your waffles in one basket.

@djjd62,
My understanding is that Kelloggs makes the no-name ones as well. Their shortage is ... gonna happen too!

Shortage of frozen waffles? That hurts - almost as much as a shortage of smoked oysters, which look remarkably like canned snot.

@ehBeth,
Is seppuku a valid response?

@ehBeth,
Just gonna have to go back to my old stanbdy of crepes.

(Haven't actually cooked a waffle in many a year. Don't even know whether there's a waffle iron in the house here.)

@ehBeth,
will scrambled eggs with toast be acceptable as a temporary substitute ?
can always have jam instead of ketchup on the side - i'm a "specialist" for that dish .

( of course , there is the preparation and cleanup to consider Shocked Laughing )

@hamburgboy,
homemade waffles with plenty of butter in the batter is the best. Eggos are sort of acceptable if I was starving and had just run out of kudzu.

Add to this the extreme shortage of canned pumpkin and we are in a famine DEFCON $

@Merry Andrew,
I do have a waffle iron but it has never been used. I'm not even sure where it came from. I last made waffles sometime around 1987.

I love waffles, but always opt for the simplicity of pancakes. I like lots of butter and a touch of buckwheat in mine.

@Merry Andrew,
I still haven't found my belgian waffle iron. I think I've been through all the boxes. I'm guessing it was a bad decision give away when I moved. Woe is me.

I don't get buying packaged waffles, given the poo that gets added to them, and that waffles don't take much time. On the other hand, since I've never bought any packaged ones, I may have been missing something all these years. Pass that real maple syrup..

@ossobuco,
Theres been a maple syrup minor scandal . Several folks were caught taking 'Deep AMber "C" Grade " and addingcorn syrup . This mellows it out so that many people (mostly westerners who dont have the supply centyers) dont notice the difference. It took analyses by the PA DEPT AG using all kinda high techy **** to find the bogus syrup.

@ehBeth,
Never had a waffle.

Don't care.

What's with waffles?

Aren't they just empty refined calories?

@farmerman,
Oh great..
on the other hand, mah motha was from Bahstan, so I have the tastebuds for it (I think).

That's a crime, you know, adulterating maple syrup! I do figure it's an old one.

Kellogg Co. has blamed a nationwide shortage of Eggo frozen waffles on heavy rain that shut down one of its main plants in Atlanta. But that's only part of the story.

The Atlanta facility was closed during much of September and October to sanitize the plant after inspectors found Listeria monocytogenes -- bacteria that can cause serious infection -- in a sample of Eggos, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture. An ABCNews.com reader raised the issue in a comment posted on an earlier story.

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/eggo-waffle-shortage-bacteria-forced-plant-closure/story?id=9117059

Let's see....one plant gets contaminated with Bacteria, the other the machines break down and need a major fix-it job, and the Corporation does not play it straight with the consumer information. Not exactly a corporation I want to give my money to by buying their products. Plus frozen waffles suck!
