A couple in their 50s died after they were stabbed during a house robbery at their Airfield home in Benoni, The Star newspaper reported on Friday.
Constable Tim Masilela said three men armed with knives arrived at the family home on Tuesday evening, when owner John Collen, 55, tried to protect his family he was stabbed repeatedly and his throat was slit.
When his wife Sue ran into the house to get help she was chased by a second man who stabbed her and tried to slit her throat.
She died in ICU from her injuries on Thursday.

A Louisiana man who murdered 77-year-old Betty Blair has been sentenced to die for his role in the strangulation and robbery of the Pasadena church worker, school teacher and community leader.
Roosevelt Smith Jr.,43, is appealing the sentence.......

SOUTH HOUSTON – Police in South Houston have arrested a suspect in Monday's brutal beating of an elderly veteran.
Charles Jacquard Turner is charged with aggravated robbery. Thomas Mixon, 79, was at home in the 1100 block of Iowa Street when a man on a bicycle broke into his rear patio door around noon, police said.
The man beat the disabled Korean War veteran, ransacked the home and stole two guns before driving away in Mixon's pickup........

Raleigh, N.C. — A Wake County judge ruled last week that there will be no pre-trial hearing to determine if a Raleigh man charged with first-degree murder is mentally retarded.
Joseph Sanderlin, 26, was supposed to go on trial in April for the Nov. 8, 2005, slaying of Lauren Michele Redman, who was stabbed and cut more than 20 times inside her Raleigh apartment.....

An Antioch man convicted of murdering a Pittsburg police officer is a hateful, predatory thug who should be put to death, a prosecutor said Tuesday, rejecting defense arguments that the killer wasn't fully aware of what he was doing and is too young to be executed.

Alexander Hamilton, 20, should not be able to experience life's pleasures - however limited in a prison cell - as punishment for fatally shooting Officer Larry Lasater after a 2005 bank robbery......

KNOXVILLE (AP) -- A traveling magazine salesman has pleaded guilty to a Knox County murder in exchange for a life prison term.
Roger Eric Broadway entered the plea Tuesday in the rape and murder of Eskalene DeBorde in her home in 2001. Broadway was arrested a short time later in Virginia.
DeBorde had been beaten, smothered and stabbed in the throat........

PITTSBURGH — A black judge from western Pennsylvania rejected a plea agreement for a man accused of fighting with police during a traffic stop, saying it was "a ridiculous plea that only goes to white boys."
The plea agreement was for a sentence of three months probation. Allegheny County Judge Joseph Williams said on Tuesday that a black defendant in that situation would not have been treated as leniently......

WEST PALM BEACH — There's a new crime in town. It's called the "bump and rob." And local law enforcement is increasingly worried over drivers being victimized.
So much so, they are warning Palm Beach County residents that if you are driving on the road between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. and another car bumps you from behind, do not get out of your car.
"It's very serious," said Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokesman Eric Davis. "We're sending out warnings and tips because it is serious."........

Carthage, N.C. — A Moore County man shot and killed four people in a December 2003 robbery, a woman who survived the attack testified Wednesday.
Mario Lynn Phillips, 35, is the first of three people charged with murder and robbery in the quadruple homicide case to go to trial.
