RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A man charged with killing a State Highway Patrol trooper over the weekend went before a Wake County judge Thursday.

Police said Christopher Rodgers was driving a car that hit and killed Trooper Gene DeMuth during a high speed chase Saturday morning. The charges pending against Rodgers in Wake County involve an incident that police said led to the chase that killed the trooper.

Raleigh police charged him with tying up an ex-girlfriend and her infant child...

A 23-year-old man confessed to stabbing to death a St. Petersburg motel manager on Monday, police said early today.

white man John G. Browning, of Clearwater, is charged with first-degree murder.

The manager, whose name was not released by police, was stabbed multiple times, police said. Police found him dead in his apartment Tuesday morning after being called to check on his welfare, said Sgt. T.A. Skinner, spokesman for the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Browning told police he stabbed the manager in a drug-induced rage and then took money from him, Skinner said. Police said they will release the manager's name once they have notified his next of kin.

Witnesses told police Browning was the last person seen with the victim about 8 p.m. on Monday. Browning was also seen leaving the Inn On The Hill, 275 34th Street South, with a cut on his hand and blood on his clothing.

Browning also told detectives where to find the knife used in the stabbing and the clothing he was wearing during the incident, Skinner said.

A man arrested for a fatal stabbing outside a Downtown hotel on Thursday asserted his innocence yesterday as a Franklin County judge set his bail at $1 million.

Wallace, 53, said he didn’t understand the proceedings. “I feel I can’t defend myself,” he said.

A Columbus police detective told the judge Wallace had blood on his clothing and “had discarded his shoes” when he was arrested along I-670 at Cassady Avenue at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, about eight hours after the stabbing.

Jerry Fugett, 42, died at 6:25 a.m. in front of the Columbus Renaissance hotel, 50 N. 3rd St., where he was found with multiple stab wounds. .......

ST. LOUIS • One is dead, one is on parole and one is serving a life term, but the fourth man convicted of throwing two sisters to their deaths off the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge two decades ago still has the court's attention in his bid for freedom.

Lawyers for Reginald Clemons, 41, will make their case here next week to a judge appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court to hear evidence and make recommendations on the claim he was wrongfully convicted.

The high court could do anything from leaving him on death row to throwing out his conviction.

The medical examiner found "extensive" fracturing of the skull." In the den, the desk behind Leevy's body appeared to have been gone through and a file cabinet had bloody glove prints on it. Money was missing from the desk, other items of jewelry was also missing, including a rolex watch and a distinctive Converse ring. 12 hours after the murder, Goss was picked up hitchhiking in Dallas. Goss was wearing a Rolex watch that he wanted to sell and the men went to a pawn shop and completed the transaction

LAS VEGAS – Gary Lee Hosey, the driver in Thursday's fatal bus stop crash, has a long arrest record, according to information obtained Friday morning from Metro Police.

Hosey, 23, is a Las Vegas resident with arrests for six previous crimes.
Hosey received serious injuries from the wreck, but was booked in absentia on four counts of DUI causing death as a result of Thursday morning's fatal crash.

According to court records, Hosey pleaded guilty a Clark County court in June 2011 to one count of speeding 11-20 mph over the speed limit and for driving without a license.

Four people were killed in Thursday's crash: a 47-year-old woman, 49-year-old woman, 24-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman. One of the women killed was identified by her daughter as Jonni Garner......

A 20-year-old Hilltop man was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in prison after admitting his involvement in two shooting deaths.
Anthony L. Wadsworth of Derrer Estates Place pleaded guilty to two counts of voluntary manslaughter — one for the Jan. 13 slaying of Wayne Pender and the other for the Jan. 17 slaying of Dennis M. Kiser.....

SURGOINSVILLE — The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office has charged white man Gary Wayne Parker, 55, 2256 Carters Valley Road, Surgoinsville, with second degree murder in connection with the Friday morning shooting death of Randy J. Armstrong, 53, 1715 Carters Valley Road, Surgoinsville.

The HCSO said Armstrong was found early Friday morning with a gunshot wound to the abdomen at Parker’s residence.

Armstrong was transported to the Holston Valley Medical Center where he did Friday morning from his wound.

Parker was taken into custody around 4 a.m. Friday for questioning in the incident and was formally charged with second degree murder shortly after 3 p.m.

A Bradenton man was charged Thursday in the shooting death of his stepbrother.

white man Roy S. Harrison Jr., 24, of 5107 17th St. Court E., fatally shot George Allen Garnett, 32, during an argument, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Harrison's stepsister, Alyssa Garnett, told deputies Harrison came over to their house, at 2923 39th St. E., and argued outside with her brother about 6:20 p.m. Thursday.

She heard a gunshot, looked through a window and saw George Garnett on the ground with Harrison standing over him, an investigators report said.

"The defendant then shot the victim one more time in the head and fled the area on his scooter," the report said.

George Garnett was taken to a Bradenton hospital, where died early Friday.

Deputies said Harrison left the scooter near a friend's house, on the 4100 block of 44th Avenue East, hid the gun behind a pile of brush and got a ride from a friend.

A short time later, deputies found and arrested Harrison on the 400 block of Kay Road Northeast as he waited for another ride, the sheriff's office said.

Ammunition similar to that used in the shooting was discovered by deputies who searched Harrison's backpack, the sheriff's office said.

Harrison was being held at the Manatee County Jail with no bail set.

Family mourns woman killed by roommate



Police say 49-year-old Rhonda Callihan was shot to death by her roommate Thursday night at her home in the 4700 block of Jamerson Forrest Court N.E. in Marietta..



Police say 65-year-old white man Dennis Bredar was responsible for the shooting death for Callihan.

Family members of a murder Cobb County woman say it was her kindness that ultimately killed her. They were shocked to lose the woman who was mother to two sons, a daughter, and loved sister.

Police say 49-year-old Rhonda Callihan was shot to death by her roommate Thursday night. 65-year-old Dennis Robert Bredar lived with Callihan in the 4700 block of Jamerson Forrest Court N.E. in Marietta. Bredar reportedly called 911 admitted to them that he as the gunman.

Police say he was sitting out front waiting for officers to arrive. He was arrested and charged him with homicide and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Neighbors tell FOX 5 News that Bredar used to live next door and was going through tough times. Family members say Rhonda was such a giving person that she wanted to help. They say she never met a stranger, never judge anyone, and always tried to help when she could.

They say she adored her two sons, ages 10 and 13. She was a member of the Noon Day Baptist Church and loved to bake. They say she was baking cakes Thursday night to help support the Relay for Life in Cartersville when she was shot and killed.

The family has set up the Rhonda Callihan McInturff Memorial Fund at Fifth Third Bank through youcaring.com. The money raised will help support her sons and pay for funeral expenses.

GONZALES — Tolbert Morris was found guilty Thursday afternoon of the 1990 kidnapping, rape and murder of Dutchtown resident Tammy Laine Bowers.

Bowers was abducted from a Dutchtown convenience store about 10:30 p.m. March 6, 1990, and she was subsequently raped and murdered along River Road. Her body was discovered two days later on what would have been her 19th birthday......

Toronto Police and auxiliary officers have been canvassing a southern Etobicoke neighbourhood for leads in finding a savage predator who breaks into the home of seniors and sexually assaults them.

Residents of Norseman Heights, near Royal York Rd. and Norseman St., are terrified and locking their doors and windows at night following two sexual assaults and a failed attempt at a third, during the early hours of Sept. 7.....

Police are trying to determine if the same suspect is also responsible for attacking a 16-year-old walking near Christie and Clinton Sts., on Aug. 29, and if two other assaults that occurred a month earlier are connected.

The women describe their attacker as a black man with a medium, stocky build about 5-foot-8 with short black hair and 18-25 years-old. He was last seen wearing grey shorts with shiny material and a white stripe down the sides of the shorts.....
