No McMansion should be without an underground survival bunker...

@Joe Nation,
If they mayans were such great fortune tellers why couldn't they see a few hundred Spainiards conquering their whole nation.

@Green Witch,
I suppose you could also rent out the security suite shelter when times get economically rough. That's about 3 very comfortable sized studio apartments in Manhattan.

The most destructive item in the world containing five elements has always been the fist.

Final weekend gross box office:

Domestic: $65,237,614 29.0%
+ Foreign: $160,000,000 71.0%
= Worldwide: $225,237,614

Roland Emmerich is happy -- however, by actual attendance figures his Independence Day is the highest grossing disaster film of all time. I just wasn't ready for the foreign box office being that high. Apparently they're all anticipating the US doing away with the rest of the world.

@Lightwizard,
Been there done that...

Watched 2012 in nearby theatre and snored wonderfully throughout the film.

Went back home fresh and then enjoyed "Day After Tomorrow" on HBO

That was a Nice Sunday.

@Lightwizard,
There is a guy near Wilkes BArre Pa who is fixing up and reinforcing an old coal mine so that he can outlast the tribulations of 2012.

Why is it that , whenever anyone starts talking doomsday, several assholes start burrowing ?

Farmerman: It comes from the fear I call "The Not High Enough Fall". There are people who are afraid of heights, but only to a certain height. They can't climb to the top of a twenty foot ladder but they can easily walk out onto a balcony twenty stories in the air. Why? Because certain death is only certain from a fall from the twenty story height, They don't want to be injured, they want to die right away or nothing. It's as if Patrick Henry left out the "Liberty" part.
The doomsday digger's fear is that they won't be amongst those struck dead in the first few moments and thereby have to face long term suffering. But wait, you say, aren't they trying to prolong their live after the initial moments?? um, yes, but we never said they were logical, we said they wanted to avoid being injured before dying.
They think they will be able to ably arise (after three days?) and to proceed unscathed through the chaos.

Until they are crushing by a falling nuclear plant cooling tower.

@farmerman,
edgarblythe on his Cern thread posted the latest news and we have the Holidays left before they start pounding protons together, so 2012 is completely wrong -- we will all be gone before that, so if one is digging or "reinforcing" a hole, they should hurry up and also forget about the family and friends for the Holidays. They should just bend over and kiss their reinforced hole goodbye.
