I need to make my lead female a stronger character?

To make her stronger: let her research and settle her divorce successfully on
her own without support from an attorney, and let it be an amicable divorce (at least from her side).

I'm actually thinking about making her really aggressive in her professional life and having this divorce be treated as if it were a facet of her professional life. So she just goes for the jugular. Then I can contrast it to her personal life where she's an adorable almost motherly character.

Maybe you can have her character be someone who grew up in foster care.... you know, the whole attachement disorder stuff.... likeable on the outside, a pleaser; an insecure mess on the inside who pushes away anyone who gets close.
