Two collapsed lungs

Can someone recover from two collapsed lungs brought on by pneumonia? They are on a respirator in the hospital and about age 50.

I imagine their doctor would know far better than we ever could.

Recovery? It probably also depends on their relative level of health prior to the pneumonia.... But as Jespah already answered... someone from the medical community or the hospital would be the best place to get that answer or reassurance.
