I find this obsession with mobile phones to be quite disturbing to personal relationships.
I think it all depends on the context. Of course it's rude, but sometimes the phone ringing is the perfect excuse to get away from the person you're talking to. I don't know about you, but there are plenty of people I do not want to talk to, so if their phone rings, I get to leave.
