As a foreigner learning English, I find it very difficult to understand the Phrase"as it were" in different context. Could someone do me a favor?

good question, and that phrase is not used much now. I await a good answer with you. I suppose I think of it as a breather phrase, which people use to gain time to figure out what they are going...

good question, and that phrase is not used much now. I await a good answer with you. I suppose I think of it as a breather phrase, which people use to gain time to figure out what they are going to say next.
