1. I have heard about the phenomenon that some people become conscious during surgery and others never wake up. Is this accurate? And if yes, why does it happen?

2. What are the side effects/ risks of anesthesia?

3. When are the different types of anesthesia used?

4.What does the anesthesiologist do during surgery?

What happens if a person is allergic to anesthesia?

As far as #1, what anestesia the doctor gives you not only renders you unconscious, but also paralyzes many of your muscles, such as arms, legs, etc.
You are unable to vocalize, or open your eyes.

So, if you get enough to paralyze you, but not make you unconscious, you would be awake.

I've seen/read where they are now working with a method to enable let's say a hand or finger to move, and thoughout the surgery you'll be asked at regular intervals if you are conscious, and you can respond by moving that muscle.
