Hey! I see that there’s been little heard of happenings in Georgia these later weeks but this should not be misleading you. The situation in Georgia did not go any better. Just the other way round things are going worse which also affects ethnic minorities in that country.
Just for your information, Council of Europe’s Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM) published last week its first hard-hitting report on Georgia saying that protection of rights of national minorities “is a major challenge”. Among other things regime of Saakashvili was recognized to be severely violating rights of ethnic minorities in Georgia which tends to be leading to trouble zones in the Caucasus. I reckon that the EU should intervenе into that country’s home affairs just because maintaining peace in the Caucasus lies in the sphere of interest of European Union.
