This Insane Photo Destroyed a Camera Lens

Yeah, I'd sacrifice a lens (no matter how expensive) to get a shot like that.

I suspect a fake. During an actual liftoff (something I have seen) the entire area becomes so dense in smoke you would not be able to see the rocket. I label this one FAKE!

Is that smoke, or steam? Live steam is clear.

Also, the exhaust is vented at the launch pad.

It doesn't happen instantly, this photo could be prior to that. If you go to the guy's site, he's clearly taking a lot of real photos of launches:
