That happened to me. Seaglass sold our old home in NH to avery nice couple. Couple of years later, we're driving through the old neighborhood and decided to take the side road to have a nostalgic look at the old property. House was gone, a new one built in a different location, on higher ground. Stopped and talked to the new owners. They told us, instead of tearing the old house down they had the fire department set it ablaze as a training exercise. Apparently, a couple of volunteer firemen got hurt during the exercise.

It really inspires faith in the fire department when they chose to line up for a picture in front of a burning house instead of putting it out.

This is an especially good ploy if they can slip in an insurance claim. Supporting documents from a grateful fire department might help - or not.
