I think Kevin Rudd's beliefs is whatever is the most popular, depending on the crowd.

Kevin is a very pragmatic politician.

I don't think him quite THAT bad, and I think the only way to really appreciate the complexities and difficulties of advancing policies, even when you are in power (though with no majority in the upper house) can be appreciated until one is doing it, or close to someone who is.....nonetheless, he is, indeed, a pragmatist.
