hey JPB

there are two diagrams which are equally likely to be correct or incorrect

one is shown to be correct

what is the probability that the other diagram is correct?

It doesn't call them both "rows"

There is 1 row with 7 people in it - altogether there are 10 rows (1 row = 7 people - 2 row = 14 - 3 row = 21 and so on...)

Yes it does:

Quote:
Adria is in the school band. She knows the band has 7 people in each row and that there are 10 rows.

row 1 : 1234567
row 2: 1234567
row 3: 1234567
etc
row 10:1234567

10 rows of 7 kids in each row

Boomer I also could say that there are 7 kernel in each apple

Even if you draw and count the rows vertical as opposed to horizontal (like in boomers drawing) oolongteasup, the answer is still 14.

they would only be equally likely to be correct if they didn't come with a description of the layout of the band. Given that they did come with a description of the layout, I'm not sure what benefit your question poses to the problem at hand.
