And I keep wondering every summer why things seem so slow around here.
Yep. Is Yaya in school yet?
We're homeschooling for Kindergarten.
There aren't any half-day programs available in our area, and sending her out for full-day seemed silly, since so much time is wasted. Why send her to school for a nap?
We have our eyes on a half-day charter school for next year.
How're the duckies doing?
School doesn't start here for another couple of weeks.
Mo is totally ready for it to begin.
Me? I'm not so excited.
What grade is he in, now?
School for us starts 2 weeks from today. My younger daughter still has 5 more books to read! At least they both got all their reading assignments done - just the actually extra reading.
And to top it off I need a pair of navy pants for my older - I can't find one any where.

Cool. I fantasize about homeschooling sometimes, but it's not possible for us and it's probably too late.
The duckies are great -- going into 2nd and 4th grades which I can hardly believe. Ducklet has matured tons and Duckie is as big a book worm as ever. They don't get enough recess, but it gets made up for in after care where they get to run and play like crazies -- something they couldn't do at home without getting run over.
Mo will be in the third grade this year.
We just got out teacher assignment in the mail on Tuesday so I've been asking around and getting good reports on her.
Fingers crossed!
Hawaii is a very weird state when it comes to schooling. Not that I have any school-age children any more, but as a former teacher I notice these things. On the mainland, I'd never heard of a school district where classes started much before Labor Day. Around here, schools have been in session since early August, some private schools since July. I don't understand just what their school year consists of. Graduations still seem to be June events. It's partly the climate, of course. There's no real distinction between seasons here. "Winter" is just a little rainier than "Summer," that's all. But, then, soutern Cal. isn't much different and people there stick to the normal schedules. I don't get it.
Hereabouts, the first day of school this year was August 10.
I miss those days.
My youngest is in college and back-to-school shopping now involves
going to a wholesale food outlet. My living room looks like a FEMA
staging area.
Up here in Canada it is September 8th. Always the first weekday after Labour Day.
the school at the end of my street is year-around, all summer I can sit on my patio and listen to "announcements."
We're starting on September 8th as well - I can't wait!!
From June 14 to September 8 is such a long time - too long for me and it seems
my daughter is looking forward to school too!
