Wolves and Red Riding Hood

There is the 'wolf' whistle to warn girls of guys. I was always puzzled about the cultural relationship of girls with wolves. Wolves in North America shy away from humans but not so the European ones. While I was browsing in a bookstore I flipped thru the pages of a book on Vikings. Apparently Vikings were not restricted to Scandanavians but included all those living by the Baltic Sea. This was what caught my eye. Boys they sent out to war and girls to the woods. Shocked Those were tough times as the region was heavily wooded and food was hard to come by. Of course wolves were in the woods and the poor girls were easy meals. Crying or Very sad I guess it would be the younger ones as the older girls would help in the house chores. It is a forgotten history as Christianity took place and chivalry was the rage for period piece novelists of brave Knights and Ladies. Chivalry was strictly for the nobility as the commoner was usually not as well fed and physically unappealing. The commoner probably carried on the tradition of letting girls into the woods to be disposed off especially after wars or when food was scarce. Wolves thus grew accustomed to feeding on defenseless young girls.

Same thing with the shark infested Caribbean Sea as dead, sick or unfit slaves were thrown overboard serving as easy meals for sharks.

Any opinions?
