My IP company threatened to throttle me today!!!

A rather unnerving email arrived:

Subject: Throttle Warning

The body of the message was less alarming:

Quote:
Dear Customer,

Re: Customer xxxxx dlowan

Thank you for your continued interest in our Chariot Internet service.

This is an automatically generated email to advise you that you
have 20% or less of your peak download limit left until the
end of your monthly billing period (27/08/2009)

At the end of your allocation your peak service
will be throttled to 64 kbps.

Yours faithfully,
Chariot Internet

25/08/2009

I appreciate the warning....but is there not a more gentle way to put it?

Is throttle the general term?

well Debbie, that sounds better than being throttled by a snake.

well Debbie, I have read posts by another fellow on this forum that seems to think that being throttled can be a sexually exciting event. perhaps you and i are just exhibiting our puritanical heritage along with freudian suppression. actually with my COPD I feel throttled pretty much 24/7.

If you keep calling me Debbie, you WILL be throttled.

I think throttling to heighten orgasm is a fairly well known technique.

I doubt if it much resembles being crushed and eaten alive by a python, or having COPD (though I am very sorry to hear you feel that way.)

I find its use in the ISP business odd.

Aw, really? Surprised
That's so nice, ehBeth.

After 7 days with no internet & no phone I'm happy to announce I'm back! WOOHOO!

Just spent something like half an hour on my cell phone with a very patient fellow, ironing out the the final glitches.

Now I'll untangle myself from all these cords around my ankles & go make a coffee to celebrate. Phew.

Ms Broadband, that's me!!! Very Happy

(I feel rather different .... a bit classier, rather uppity, I must say!)

strike up the band!

BTW Dlowan my ISP calls it "shaping" rather than throttling. Much classier i feel.

Yet more euphemistic.

"Dwindling peaking and pining" perhaps?
