GEORGE SODINI: A DOUBTFULLY GOOD MATE

Reply Wed 5 Aug, 2009 06:06 pm
It is very unlikely that George Sodini 'd have been a decent mate.

He said that he struck out against the ladies because thay did not like him.
(Sadly, thay were all unarmed when he opened up on them.)

I don 't know, but I suspect,
that if he had a mate, he 'd not have been a good boyfriend or husband.

I never heard of him, but I 'd have discussed the situation with him
on his blog, if I 'd known about it. It is extremely unlikely that
it woud have had any effect.

I'm seriously wondering if there should be some injunction against publishing photos or stories of people who carry out these kind of shooting sprees. I'm very sensitive to the free press aspect, but it seems like it could hit some combination of not releasing identities of minors/ rape victims (is there a law about rape victims? now I'm not sure) and laws against allowing prisoners to profit from their crime (selling their story for a movie or book or whatever).

So many of these guys seem fueled by the "everyone will know who I am" factor, it's tempting to try to take that away.

When I hear of victims of the predatory violence of man or beast,
I usually wish that thay were possessed of the emergency equipment
that was necessary to successfully handle the situation.

I partake of the old philosophy of Colonial America,
wherein (along the same principle of modern compulsory seatbelt laws),
it was deemed irresponsible to go to church or to work
in an unarmed condition. It was outlawed, subject to a fine.

I wish that all of my fellow citizens, except those who refuse,
were well armed. That will promote Individualism, libertarianism
and the reduction of crime, because crime will be too dangerous.

Together with that, I 'd like to see the end of the War on Drugs.
Give Peace a chance. Restore the status quo ante of a
free market in drugs. The bottom will drop out of it, financially.
I consider those addictive drugs to be poison, so I will avoid them.

Lastly, I 'd permanently isolate people (sane or not) whose histories
have proven them to be recidivisticly violent.
Ideally, thay 'd be removed from the North American Continent.
There 'd be concurrent federal and state jd for this.

That 's David ' s panacea

this society suffers from too much secrecy/back room deals/not dealing with shit....doing more of that is not the answer to anything.

The solution is to have a healthy society where individuals are happy and healthy, and for those who are not to encourage them to get help. Prevention is the only thing that will work, because once people get so angry that they don't care about living the collective has no way to enforce its will. there is no defense against suicide bombers or angry men with guns, they don't care about anything we have to use against them.

I understand what u mean, Sozobe, but in my opinion,
there is no authority for it, any more than there is authority
to make u go to church on time.

Prevention is absolutely impossible -- an mt pipe dream.

The wisest perception I 've ever heard from Rudy Giuliani,
ex-mayor of NYC, was a rhetorical question:
" who knows Y crazy people do things ?"
