Encourage friendly competition between your employees (or between your store and another), it breeds innovation and motivation to excel. Understand though that this will not work for every employee (and shouldn't be forced on those that aren't motivated).

Wonderful that you are reaching out to see how you can become a good manager! There have been some great suggestions. One other thing to add - don't be afraid to jump in and help when things get busy. One thing I noticed just this weekend when going out to eat (and this should apply for any sort of business) was when it got busy, the owner and manager just stayed at the front - they didn't come and clear tables, bring food over or just visit tables to see if things were ok. The waitstaff was running their a$$es off and the manager and owner did little or nothing.

Granted things work a little differently in the fast food, but if you see it getting busy, jump in and help out where help is needed the most. The staff will appreciate it and will respect you more and the customers will also see it and appreciate they are being taken care of.

Hmm...very good
Thank you very much everyone
I like to prepare the best I can before going in (to uncharted territory).
Sunscreen, bugspray, compass...and advice from the locals of course.

Much of this knowledge sounds as though it has come from experience.
I will review it before my first day of work (and probably well into it as well).
I'm glad you told me straight off to maintain a professional remove Sozobe;
That would likely have been one of my first mistakes.
I want to stay and talk more, but at the moment I must indeed go.

Sometimes it's nice to do thing for your employees. Surprise them by having pizza delivered for their lunch.

Great idea - but not the pizza delivery when they are working at a fast food place!
