Yanks meet Reds: a question for military history people.

My father in law is moving and Mr. B's siblings are looking to sell some of his stuff. Among the items is this:

I was thinking of getting it for my brother who is in the army and a real military history buff.

Is this something that he would like? Does it have value as memorabilia?

How much money would be fair to pay for it?

Thanks for your help!

It certainly qualifies as memorabilia. However, it likely does not have that much monetary value. I wouldn't want to attempt to tell you what the dollar value is. It might help if you could contact a rare book dealer about this, it's the sort of thing in which they deal. LiontamerX does some sort of rare book thing, but he's not around much these days. You could try sending him a private message.

Stars and Stripes. They banned the Beetle Bailey strip, you know.

I think that issue would be quite desirable to a military collector, by the way.

For quite a few people, not only 'military collectors'! (And that's why I think that it might be quite expensive).

Thanks guys!

They'd probably give it to me if I asked for it but since I'd be gifting it outside of their family I feel that I should pay for it if it does have some value.

Although my brother has scads of militay stuff he really isn't a collector of this kind of thing. I thought he might like it though.

My research hasn't turned up anything. I'll look around a bit more and wait to see if anyone shows up here with more info before sending Liontamer a PM. Thanks for that suggestion!

@boomerang,
Try googling the combo of stars and stripes + ephemera

my first hit brought me to

Phillipines invaded/MacArthur falls back

the seller is looking for $35 for complete editions of both of those dates

the seller's ebay store

http://stores.shop.ebay.ph/Steve-Goldman-HISTORICAL-NEWSPAPERS__W0QQ_armrsZ1

you should be able to find some clues there (his prices are quoted in php funds on the 'front' page, so you need to click on the individual items to find out the u.s. $ amounts)
email the vendor and ask him?
