Is the regeneration supposed to run every-night. Does it need to?

No. Most regenerate once or twice a week.

What model do you have?
How many people in the home?
How hard is the water?
Iron?

Your system should not regenerate every day, once... possibly twice a week should handle your needs.

Mine is regenerating every night as well. It just started doing this. I've had the unit for 15 years.

Any idea why this might be happening now? What should I look at?
