AVI file types - help!

Using a digital camera, I created an avi file. When I try to access the file with any of my windows programs, it does not render the sound. When I open it with Quicktime, it works perfectly fine.

How do I fix this problem? How do I make the sound work with windows programs? Does anyone know anything about the nuances about avi formats?

1. Do other sounds work on your PC?
2. Examine the program or device that created the AVI, and see what codec it is using. Then make sure your player supports that codec.

You are likely missing a codec that is needed for sound. You could try to hunt for the specific codec you are missing but I find it's easier to install one of those "all in one" codec packs. Because some are of dubious copyright legality I won't try to recommend any (been a while since I used them) but you can make your own selection by searching for "codec pack".
