Over the years n decades, I 've had this happen a few times.
I called the Bronx Zoo for advice qua nurture.

As the baby bird responded, n grew stronger,
I grew overconfident in his flourishing strength n well being.
U can t do that.

He needs continual supervision.

Please don t make my mistake.

Beautiful pictures.

Permit me to add
that your posts indicate that u r taking better and more detailed care than I did.

Still, he needs u to not become overconfident in the future.

If that bird lives, it will have "imprinted" on you, you know. It will consider you to be the mommy, and will follow you around everywhere, until it finds a mate of its own. If it survives, it may remain near your house, or come back to your house every year.

This is what I truly do hope to avoid.

One of the main issues I have heard from two vets and read online is that hand fed birds do not always survive because they become used to humans and associate them with a "home"... almost like the birds who will come back to one specific area for their entire life.

I realize I may have done the bird more harm then good.. though.. the other option was to allow it to be hit. That mary poppins gene is suffocating.

so are those fluffy knickers..

I have tried that.
So far not a real good one yet.
He moves too much when he sees me to get a clear photo.

Have you been in touch with any of the local wildlife/avian rescues?

Reply Sat 13 Jun, 2009 08:11 pm
Yes.
85.00 will get the bird a place in a rescue. They dont take what they consider to be "common" birds.
But they sure did give me a lot of information over the phone on how to do this, what to look for and what is good for the bird.

---

oops. Had to edit. Hit send before I was done.

And i can call them at any time for information, but I dont have 85 i can just hand to someone for bird care. That is an investment I have to pass on.

here ya go.

I had to mess with the photo levels so that you could see the blue in him. Normally, his color is not this vivid.
he is standing next to a small fixed lens..

Geez, shewolf, I'm falling for a bird I see online? The bird and the photography.
Glad you have that contact line with the rescue folks.

oh I am adoring this.
Dont think for one second I am not attached to this bird Smile

He goes everywhere with me and so far even stores are receptive to him.
I mean, he is in an enclosure so nothing gets anywhere..

I will tell anyone who asks, or insists that I not take him with me, that I am training a seeing eye bird.

You should HEAR him sputter and humm when he is happy.

Im working on recording it, and then finding a way to post it.
It is the cutest sound I have ever heard a bird make.
The problem is that he does it when he sees me and when he is full, but he gets too excited when I come close to him so he stops the rhythmical sputtering and just chirps.
