I just discovered who will soon become my favorite author - - Charles P. Pierce. A friend of mine pointed me in Pierce's direction, and the first piece I've read is a 2007 article in Esquire magazine entitled "Greetings from Idiot America." http://www.esquire.com/features/ESQ0207GREETINGS

The article hits the proverbial nail on its proverbial head.

From its introductory paragraph
Quote:
Creationism. Intelligent Design. Faith-based this. Trust-your-gut that. There's never been a better time to espouse, profit from, and believe in utter, unadulterated crap. And the crap is rising so high, it's getting dangerous.
to its conclusion, Pierce hammers his point home (must continue the construction metaphor) with humor, elegance, and incisive style, acerbically looking at the absurdity of America (thanks, my friend, for that last phrase).

I'm looking forward to reading more of his writings.

Is anybody else out there a fan?

Charles Pierce used to guest blog at Eric Alterman's site. The guy is a brilliant writer who I think wrote alot about the Boston Red Sox.

His Idiot America ought to be fine reading.
