Is it Just Me Who Can't View Youtubes On A2K?

Reply Thu 28 May, 2009 09:25 am
About 5 days ago, I suddenly stopped being able to view youtube videos on A2K, all I get is the broken link icon and the url underneath it.

Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

I've checked the IE internet options and my McAfee settings to see if anything obvious had been changed, and found nothing. I can still view youtube videos on other sites such as Huffington Post.

Am curious if this is a widespread A2K problem or something specific to my computer and I need to dig deeper to figure it out. I'll send a copy of this to the Help Desk also.

Here's a test, if you can see this and play it. I haven't seen any other reports on the Help Desk so I am guessing it is specific to your setup.

Any suggestions on where to look and make changes? I've checked the Internet Options for IE and the program permissions for my McAfee firewall and don't see anything that has changed. My last resort is to reset the IE advanced options to factory settings and see if that makes a difference.

I can't think of anything or any updates that occurred on my PC about 5 days ago that might be causing this.

Check your Adobe Flash settings, maybe?

BFN, can you see the video if you go directly to Youtube, or is it just here where you're having the trouble?

I can see it on the Youtube site if I click on the link beneath it; it's The Beat Generation.

I just uninstalled Adobe Flash and downloaded and reinstalled the new version 10. Nothing changed.

I also tried viewing this topic in compatibility view but nothing changed. I finally reset the advanced internet options back to the factory settings and rebooted the PC, but still can't view it.

Haven't rebooted after reinstalling Adobe Flash yet. Am going to do that now and will report back.

I see the same sort of thing, but I use Quero to block pop-ups and ads. I do except the YouTube site from that, so I can click the link and see it then.

Just rebooted and the problem remains.

Reyn, I checked the options on Google Tools and the pop-up blocker feature is not enabled. I wonder if McAfee has done something new to their software and now blocks things. Will dig further into McAfee.

Checked my McAfee program permission settings and the Adobe Flash program has full access permissions. Also checked my Spyware Blaster settings to ensure that the Flash killer feature had not been turned on. It is still off.

This is weird.

Don't know if this gives any clue, but I just looked at Robert's profile page and the FM music, Flicker slide show and youtube favorites all display correctly. I can also click on one of the youtube favorites and the video displays and plays correctly on Robert's profile page.

It seems to only be a problem when it is embedded in a topic thread using the youtube codes.

Doesn't seem to be limited to just youtube. I looked for some flash videos on A2k to see if I can view those, and I get the same broken icon for this post:

I write in 2 computers.
The one at home has had the same trouble all week long.
The one at work displays the youtube videos just fine.
Don't know why.

Is the one at home using the new version of Internet Explorer? That's what I am using. Maybe there is something wrong with the A2K code or the Adobe Flash code specific to that version that the compatability tool can't overcome.

The one at home, old version of Explorer.
The one at work, Mozilla.

I am also using IE 8. I have no problems and can view Jespah's test video just fine.

Meantime, I'm waiting, days, for some more persons to answer what is probably a simple question.

Maybe scratching cookies is right, but I'm wary, as I like the cookies I like. I'd appreciate opinions.

Ah, beg your pardon. Especially since yahoo seems to have opened some new friendly poo poo site for you... I'm rolling my eyes.

Sigh, I'll take the question off this thread - I thought it might just be an easy answer.

Can you watch YouTube videos from other websites, Facebook for example?
