I have found just about all the info available online about the song and various versions and recordings of it...I am really really interested in the actual story behind the song...the REAL history of the wreck of the John B. Supposedly some remains of the ship exist (or existed) in Governor's Harbour in the Bahamas. One source called it a "sponger" and said it sailed between FL and the Bahamas. Also a brief reference to the "folk lore" that what happened to the John B was due to it's name, which sounds identical to "zombie" in the West Indian dialect. Other than that I have very little info. Can anyone help??

Alan Dean Foster's Spellsinger series had an episode that featured the song too.
