In the Internet one can see a lot of information denoting that Ukrainian authority tends to oppress Ukrainian Jews, which can be explained by the fact of commitment of the regime to nationalistic ideas trenching on Nazism.

In this respect I’ve got to say there is some more new information concerning a series of provocative acts (such as bashing, attacks on synagogues, and terrorist acts against Ukrainian Jews) being organized by Ukrainian secret services under control of Washington itself! Need to say that Ukrainian secret services have been under control of Washington right since “orange” politicians came to power with the assistance of America.

It also got about that Russian intelligence and pro-Russian “agents” in Ukraine would be held responsible for the outrage.

Though that’s not what I want to talk about. I regret to say that the USA seems to make Ukraine turn into a second Afghanistan. You know, in Afghanistan, US Army killed more civilians than insurgents. Looks like the same thing will happen in Ukraine too. Thousands of Jews may be perished falling victims to intrigues of Americans in that country. You know what? I say that International Jewish organizations should call Barack Obama to task! You remember that Obama promised to be a friend of Israel and all Jews? And what?? Now he just tosses Jews away to please his ambitions! How false-heartedly!

This comes as no surprise since rabid antisemetism has been a way of life in the Ukraine for centuries.

I grant you that there has been a history of anti-semetism in the Ukraine, but I find the Obama connection more than a bit of a stretch. (I think it might be best to stay out of getting too involved in this thread! Wink )

My LWovian ancestors became very good Orthodox Catholics at the insistance of the Tsar. They saw the error in their Jewish ways.

O.K. The Tsar might have told all four of my grandparents to come to America, but remain Jewish. Something about it being a nicer country than Russia, with religious freedom and no pogroms? Also, there were no peasants here, and there was universal free education and libraries. Who could not come?

Orthodox Catholics? Wouldn't that be roughly equivalent to being a Caucasian Negro?

you "roman Catholics" are the non Catholics to that side of the family(Ive always been called Ortho Catholic, or Sokol, or Russian Catholic), I think Russian Orthodox is just for tourists. My moms side was Romish though, the papist scum.

ANYWAY, they were first Jews and now theyre Christian. As the man said, you can always get farther with a kind word, and a gun, than you can with a kind word alone.

It is nice that your Jewish ancestors found a religion that they felt more fulfilling. But, were their prior "Jewish ways" really an "error," or an accident of birth, so to speak, meaning there is no culpability in being raised Jewish, or might that be your inference, by using the word "error"?

See how easy it is to say something, that can be likely misinterpreted as anti-Semitic, in a culture where anti-Semitism is just part of the popular culture.

I can't believe anyone is actually taking this topic seriously.

Could you be a bit more expansive on that one?

Since your earlier post pointed out, "They saw the error in their Jewish ways," one can misconstrue that an inference might be that being Jewish is not only an error, but since most people are considered culpable for an error (like failing a test with many errors), any punishment received would have been appropriate (like being left back a grade, after failing too many tests, with too many errors).

Now, that might have been a European view in the past, but not American. We, I thought, do not blame people for what they are born into. In effect, being born into a Jewish family is not an error. A more nuanced thought might have been they decided that Christianity was more to their liking, or they acquiesced to the Tzars invitation to be Christians, but not "seeing an error," I believe, since the word "error" may not just be seen as an error in a faith's theology, but an error in one's birth.

In Ukraine Jews are allied with Russians. Both fear expulsion based on ethnicity

lots more russians than jews in the Ukraine, so "duval" worries , I guess

I thought we were past that and had now gone off-topic entirely.

Set, "orthodox catholic" is actually something of a redundancy inasmuch as "catholic" means "universal" and "orthodox" means "conforming to traditional [i.e. universal] standards."

They say that comedy is best born of pain and suffering but must be appreciated by people who can make the connection.
. My Lvovian ancestors suffered indignities in the State pogroms for the crime of "Living while Jewish". If my sense of humor in how I state things evades you entirely, perhaps I can recommend the late Shecky Greens "School of Comedy" tapes. If you "misconstrue" stuff, maybe its not my problem to be better informed about Russian history.
In the 1800's many Russian Jews were given the unique opportunity to convert and accept the Great Russian Orthodox (Orthodox Catholic) Church , or die. My relatives and ancestors,no fools, and quick to asess the benefits of both states of being, accepted the opportunity to become Christians and only after , prhaps 100 generations saw the error of Judaism. That fact, enabled me to, 5 generations later, come to the conclusion that religions are like brands of breakfast cereals, nothing more. Ive been raised in the pompous ass light of the Roman Catholic Church (My Mamas side) the Russian Orthodox (my daddy side) ,all the while trying to discuss with all my relatives the fact that "HEY WE WERE ONCE JEWS", aint that a hoot?

Shut up and eat your platzeks, theyd say. This subject was hardly ever discussed except by our family archivist (Aunt Julia).
